It saddens me to find out that Doc Porter died and at the same time I´m smiling at the memories. I think he´d like it that way.
I worked with Doc for a few years while he was the Medicaid Medical Director for SoA. We got along quite well as we were both Vets & I had been a pediatric nurse. The stories we shared. :)
Often we have to work jobs that aren´t necessarily to our liking but what keeps us at those jobs are the people that we work with. Doc was one of those people.
I remember him for his endless stories, his humor, and colorful life. The one thing about hime that comes to mind most often even to this day, is his coffee cup. Doc´s coffee cup was white on the outside but the color of a dark roast on the inside. His claim was the build up stain would help flavor the weak brew other people made... and no one else would ever use his cup.
Thanks for the memories Doc, I raise my stained coffee cup to your memory. See you on the other side.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to know and interact with Dr. Thomas J. Porter can consider ourselves very lucky. "Doc" was an intelligent, kind and considerate individual. I knew him as a fellow member of a car club. His presence was enjoyed by everyone. He always had a story to keep us laughing and many times to remind us of our goals and keep us focused. He will be missed, and I will think of him often.

Few people cross our path thru life that leave a profound impression. Doc was one of those very few without whom we are lessened but have been enriched for having been privileged to have known him.

The kindness and gentleness of Doctor Porter will always remain in my memory. He treated my daughter so well with her chronic illnesses. Over 40 years later, I still think of him fondly. Plus I really liked his collection of cars. The world needs more people like Dr Porter.
