I remember Tom Shackle sitting in the TV studio in Barrow early in his career doing what he enjoyed the most. He was a good man and worked with many of us over the years. He will be missed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to each family member of Tom Shackle. He was one of those rare people who seem to fit right into our community of Barrow when he worked for the North Slope Borough School District. May the Lord bring comfort and peace to each of you.

Tom was my mentor, teacher and friend. I am stunned to hear of his death. When I was a young woman teaching in Barrow, Tom convinced me to join his studio and learn the art and skill of video production. It changed my life. He was always kind, thoughtful and encouraging, sharing his knowledge and experience, offering his guidance and suggestions, giving me support for whatever creative and misguided ideas I wanted to try. When he moved to Anchorage, we all missed his strong, gentle leadership at the studio and in our community. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family, Tom. I know you continue to guide them and all of us who are blessed to hold you in our memories.

To the family of Tom Shackle,
We send you our deepest sympathy on the passing of Tom. We met Tom when he worked with the Alaks Public Forum in 1976-80. I also worked on projects with him when he was at the University. HIs contributions to Alaska were great and his videos will stand as a testiment of his committment to us long into the future. We are saddened by his passing. Jane Angvik and Vic Fischer, Anchorage
