Timothy Dohan Obituary

Former Alaskan Timothy C. Dohan, 30, died unexpectedly Sept. 1, 2009, at his loft in Brooklyn, N.Y. On Sept. 5, Eric Moore and Lee Mandell hosted a celebration of Tim's life for his many friends in Brooklyn. On Sept. 10, his workplace held a memorial in Manhattan. His family will hold a celebration-of-life ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tanana. His ashes will be buried overlooking the Yukon River. Tim was born Jan. 18, 1979, in Anchorage to Peter H. Dohan, M.D., of Canada and Polly E. Hyslop of Northway. Tim's education began at the old log schoolhouse in Tanana. He later attended school in Anchorage, Fairbanks and New York City. He graduated from Chaffee High School in Chaffee, Mo., in 1997 and attended Queens College School of Film in New York. Tim worked for several years as an independent graphic designer on a variety of projects ranging from ads for national campaigns to documentaries for television. At the time of his death, he was employed as a senior graphic artist at Madhouse, an ad agency on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. His family wrote: "Tim was well read, creative and passionate about photography. He will be remembered most of all for his kind and generous spirit. Tim was dedicated to his family and his wide circle of friends. Although Tim loved living in New York City, he never forgot his ties to Alaska. He was a Tanana tribal member, always proud of his Athabascan heritage. He particularly enjoyed telling his New York friends about his first moose hunt on the Chisana River near Northway." Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd and Polly Hyslop, and Curtis and Marie Dohan; and by his aunt, Patti Hyslop. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Benjamin Schwartz and Christopher Dohan; uncles, Laverne, Tom and Charles Hyslop, and Curtis and Michael Dohan; aunts, Annie Vanderpool, and Blanche and Jean Dohan; and cousins, Sherlyn Titus, Harris, Raymond and Tyler Hyslop, Nick Roberts, Misty Riley, CC and Mandy Vanderpool, Victoria and Krista Workman, Travis and Jacob Isaac, Darren Edwin, Kevin Burgett, Michael B., Douglas, and Katherine and David Dohan. Condolences may be sent to his mother, Polly Hyslop, at P.O. Box 426, Northway 99764.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Timothy and I went to Queens College together and were in many of the same film classes. He was a very nice guy, funny, polite, and full of life.
I'm glad I am able to keep the many fond memories of him in my heart.

Dear Ms. Hyslop and Dr. Dohan,

Kindly accept my condolences for your tragic loss.

Tim was a very good friend of mine. I first met Tim in 2003. I was moving to the same building he was living in at that time in Queens, NYC. I was struggling with my luggage and he helped me move all my stuff to my 3rd floor walk up. We became friends instantly. Tim was very kind, was very witty, and a great friend who was always there for others. He was a very talented graphic artist and worked very hard to make it big in the city he so dearly loved.

Today is the day my dear friend left us all five years ago!
I have kept him in my thoughts and I will always remember Tim as the kind, witty and fun dude he was.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Kind Regards,

Upali
