William J. Mongeau Jr.

1951 - 2017

William, "Bill" or "Billy," Mongeau Jr., 66, passed away on Father's Day, June 18, 2017, at his home in Chugiak, Alaska, with family by his side. Bill was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 4, 1951, and was a lifelong Alaska resident. He attended Chugiak High School and was in the graduation class of 1969. A true Alaskan, Bill loved fishing, hunting, skiing and numerous other outdoors activities. He navigated many rivers on his airboat with his family, brothers and friends. You would often see Bill in the company of one or more of his much loved and devoted dogs.
Family was always very important and came first to Bill. He had a great love of music and growing up he was always singing Elvis Presley, Frankie Lane and Johnny Cash songs. Bill enjoyed playing basketball with his children, golfing and watching sports programs. He was an avid car enthusiast and sports fan. Especially fond of football, you could count on Bill not missing a game when his favorite team, the Pittsburg Steelers, were playing.
Bill retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302 and Municipality of Anchorage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie (Ball) and William J. Mongeau Sr.; and sister, Lili (Mongeau) Fredrickson. Bill is survived by his wife, Caren Mongeau; daughter, Vasai Mongeau; sons, William "Billy" Mongeau III and Matthew "Matt" Mongeau; Breea and grandson, Cash Mongeau; brothers, Art Mongeau, Joe Mongeau and Al Mongeau; sisters, Gail West and Jeannie Arnold; loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many close and lifelong friends.
Bill's smile, laugh and sense of humor, along with his storytelling, will be deeply missed. So "Sing us a song tonight" Bill.
