Charles Autry Mangis, 91, of Madisonville, passed away quietly on Saturday October 11, 2025 at Wood's Village in Sweetwater. Charles was a lifelong resident of Madisonville, TN. He is survived by his wife Sarah Joyce Mangis, daughter Betty Mangis Elliott (Rick) of Ooltewah, stepdaughter, Shana Bailey (Keith) of Athens. He had numerous cousins and nieces. Grandchildren are Dustin Smith, Sabrina Steele (Shelby), Miranda Hyde (of Riceville,) Travis Dentino (of Athens,) Allysha Dentino (of Chicago, IL.) Great-grandchildren include Leonidas and Penelope , G. W., Serenity, Bryson, Emmy, Malcolm and Hazel.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Reed and Juanita Holloway Mangis of Madisonville, his sister and her husband, Marie and Clayton Garren, his first wife Margie Denton Mangis, and his brother Leon Mangis (of Marietta Ga,) his nephew Mike Garren, his cousin and dear friend Bill Hatmaker.
Charles was a devout Christian and was a member of Unity church In Madisonville. He enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. Well-known for his work ethic, Charles both farmed and worked as a Tool & Die Maker at Maremont, which he retired from with 32 years of service. He never met a stranger and loved nothing more than talking about work, which he was passionate about. He was married to Margie for 32 years until her death in 2002. Joyce and Charles met in 2007 and they have been happily married for 17 years. Funeral 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. John Butler officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Thursday in New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
