Evelyn Swedberg

1935 - 2025

Evelyn (Mom, Grandma, GG) Aileen Swedberg, 90, of McGregor, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family at Carefree Living, McGregor. Evelyn was born April 1, 1935, in Moose Lake, the daughter of Toivo and Aina (Huhta) Staudinger. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1953. Evelyn was united in marriage to Elmer Emanuel Swedberg on November 28, 1953, in East Lake. Following marriage, she learned how to farm, was a homemaker and mother. Together, Evelyn and Elmer raised their three children, Darla, David, and Duane. She loved to cook and bake and was the head cook at McGregor Schools for 20 years. Evelyn also catered many special events. Her buns became quite famous in the McGregor area. She was a member of the Lions Club, The Red Hat Society and Mission Circle. Evelyn had a heart for serving the McGregor community and will be deeply and dearly missed.

Evelyn's greatest joy was her family. Nothing made her smile brighter than the visits from her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She never let anyone leave her kitchen hungry, always had a fresh pot of coffee ready for company, and never missed a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Known for her love of a good joke, Evelyn had a gift for making others feel welcome, loved, and at ease in her presence.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Emanuel Swedberg on May 8, 1986, sister Eleanor (Bruno) Wiita and parents Toivo and Aina Staudinger. Evelyn is survived by her children: Darla (Mike) Wayrynen of McGregor, David (Judy) Swedberg of Duluth and Duane (Deb) Swedberg of McGregor; Grandchildren: Ranae (Jason) Danielowski, Matt (Kindra) Wayrynen, Jonas (Kerry) Swedberg, Jayme (Mike) Rey, Sara (Ryan) Zrust, Sam (Lindsay) Swedberg, Elmo (Wynnona) Swedberg; Great-grandchildren: Cody and Piper Danielowski, Reino, Briita, Emil and Jalmar Wayrynen, Maddy and Sadie Rey, George and Rosie Swedberg, Kamryn, Kate, Jessa and Drew Zrust, Clyde Swedberg and Orville Swedberg; and many other nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

A funeral service held at 1pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the McGregor School Auditorium, McGregor, MN. Visitation 11am to 1pm Saturday in the auditorium.
