MaryBeth Swanson

1941 - 2025

Mary Elizabeth Swanson, lovingly known as MaryBeth, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, in Aitkin, Minnesota, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.

Born on June 21, 1941, in McGregor, Minnesota, MaryBeth was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mabel Swanson. She grew up in a close-knit family with four siblings who also preceded her in death. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1959.

From a young age, MaryBeth shared her gift of music with the world. A talented entertainer, she performed alongside many well-known artists and was honored with induction into the Minnesota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her passion and energy earned her the nickname "Rock and Roll Grandma," a title she carried with pride.

After retiring from her music career, MaryBeth found joy in tending to her gardens and serving her church community at Palisade Assembly of God. There, she faithfully led music and helped with Sunday school, touching countless lives with her kindness, faith, and unwavering spirit.

MaryBeth is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey Johnson of St. Cloud, MN, and Timothy Johnson of McGregor, MN; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her legacy lives on in the music she shared, the gardens she nurtured, and the love she poured into her family and community.
