Richard "Dick" Bartlett

Richard "Dick" Bartlett was born Jan 24, 1925 to William Herman & Merle (Oliver) Bartlett in Seibert, Colorado. He grew up in Fleming, Atwood & Sterling. He graduated from Atwood High School in 1943. From 1935 to 1945 he was active in 4-H. In 1945 he represented Logan County at the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, IL. He spent one year on the Red Cross Board. In 1946, he was instrumental with 4 others in establishing the kid's rodeo at the Logan County Fair and was the kid's rodeo manager from 1946-1956. On March 7, 1954 he married Violet Rose Nickel at Peace Lutheran Church in Sterling. They lived in Merino, Wyoming and Cope. 1975 they moved back to Merino to build their home. He was a member of Merino IOOF Lodge 464 holding all offices of a subordinate lodge and 1 year as Deputy Grand Master of Northeast Colorado. Dick was a 4-H & Boy Scout leader, he enjoyed breaking and training horses, reading, & gardening. He worked for the Road & Bridge Dept. of Logan County for over 20 years. Dick & Vi liked to attend & watch rodeos. They especially liked to dance, their favorite being the waltz. Dick is survived by his children; Sandra Passeno (Jeff), Rick Bartlett, Hugh Bartlett (Jeneen), Lisa Wolever (David), thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, Memorials may be made to Dick Bartlett Memorial or Peace Lutheran Church. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tues., March 5, 2013, at Peace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Wendy Kalan officiating. Inurnment was held at Riverside Cemetery.
