Bonnie Garcia Obituary

Bonnie Luisa Garcia, 64

Bonnie Luisa Garcia, 64, passed away on April 6, 2016 in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Bonnie should be remembered for the things she taught all of us. She lived for others and in doing so lived a life full of love, shared joys and sorrows, and cherished memories in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. She took every opportunity to turn things into a lesson. She showed all of her daughters how to be moms because for Bonnie, there was one thing she valued most, and that was her family. She showed all of her kids how to be a good partner. She showed everyone she met how to be a good person.

Taking care of other people was always a priority for her and she passed that on to everyone she came across. She didn't just take lemons and make lemonade; she took lemons and made lemonade to drink along with some green chile and homemade tortillas to eat. Strength and kindness were her calling cards. Her love for her family, her friends, and her willingness to help others is the legacy Bonnie will leave behind her, and we're all richer for having known her. That's what we need to remember, and if we live that, she'll never truly be gone.

The Rosary for Bonnie Garcia will be recited at 7:00 pm, Friday, April 8, 2016 at Our Lady Of The Light Catholic Church in La Luz by Freddie Pacheco. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Our Lady Of The Light Catholic Church in La Luz with Father Theophine Okator, Celebrant.

Burial will take place at a later date at Our Lady Of The Light Catholic Cemetery.

The Garcia family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.

The funniest memory for me was when she was going into surgery, she asked the anesthesiologist and the surgeon if they were single. When I got in to see her she asked me if I had seen the doctors because they were cute AND SINGLE! Lol. I asked her if she was trying to set me up? She said ummm huh.....yes! Lol I will miss you dearly Tia...love you!!

I will always remember the laughter and the tears I shared with Bonnie Garcia. Although she worked "for me," I always told her we "worked together. " She was loyal to a fault and loved, loved, her family.

I will never forget the day I hired her as my secretary at Yucca Elementary. She was smart, motivated, a great writer and editor, and more than anything incredibly funny. Later, she shared her surprise at being offered the job because she thought I was "too much of a cheerleader" to even consider hiring someone like her! We both laughed about it through the years. I will say this, hiring Bonnie was the best decision I ever made. She followed me to central office and continued to be a great support.

After I left Alamogordo, we always found time to talk to one another about school and family. I will miss her laughter and her friendship. Sending my love to the family as I know your loss is great. I pray you will find strength in her memory and in all of the blessings she shared with others. She was a blessing to me in many, many ways. Thank you for sharing her with me!
