John Lazaro Obituary

John Sam Lazaro

Alamogordo - "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13

Jesus came for John Sam Lazaro, (78) on March 5th, 2021, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on May 7th, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to John Lazaro Sr. and Nellie Christy. John grew up in both Michigan and California. During his high school years, he resided in Riverside, California where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Dreama Mae. They wed on September 7th, 1962 in Riverside, California. They had two daughters, Sharlotte Hope and Rebecca Louise. While their daughters were still young, they moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico to be closer to Dreama's family.

John spent his working years employed by contractors at both Holloman AFB and White Sands Missile Range. Before and after retirement, John spent much of his time outdoors. He loved hunting, as well as having a passion for fishing. He enjoyed participating in many fishing tournaments. In his later years of retirement, John became an avid golfer. He also marshalled at the golf course in Alamogordo. John met many dear friends during his time both fishing and golfing. He was also a member of the Optimist Club and the Elks Club, giving back time to his community. John found time to enjoy woodworking, and he made beautiful furniture. In his later years, he made a variety of decorative pieces, such as wall hangings, special shelving, crosses, candle holders, and all sizes of bird houses. John attended The Worship Center in Alamogordo and had a faithful and loving relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.

John is survived by his two daughters, Sharlotte Dees (Joel) and Rebecca Wimsatt (Asa) of Cloudcroft; grandchildren, Shelby Collins (Adrienne) of Alamogordo, Rayce Collins (Jackie) of Ruidoso, Madison Lund of Portales, and Landyn Wimsatt of Canyon, Texas; step grandchildren, Garrett Wimsatt (Brooklyn) of San Marcos, Texas, Tawnee Sadler (Harold) of Dallas, Texas, Joel B. Dees (Tamara) of Alamogordo, Josh Dees (Cassie) of Cloudcroft, Camelia Gutierrez (Daniel) of Edgewood, and Penelope Carroll (Ryan) of Chandler, Arizona; step great grandchildren Knox Wimsatt, Colt Wimsatt, Corbin Dees, Carson Dees, Joshua Dees, Allison Dees, and Hank Gutierrez; sisters, Eleanor Padureanu of California and Betty Brooks of Missouri. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dreama; his parents, John and Nellie Lazaro; sister, Martha and brothers, Chrest and Pete.

John had so many wonderful friends that are more like family. Thank you so much for blessing him with your friendship. John's family would like to thank Ambercare Hospice for their comfort and care during this time. "We are going to miss you with everything in our hearts. At times we ask why did we not do more with you, but we will always hang on to the memories. We were blessed to know and love you. Your contagious voice and ability to spread happiness wherever you went are some of the qualities we will never forget. If we all lived life with your perspective, the world would be a better place. We are reminded that God chooses people the same way we choose a flower, He picks the prettiest first. You have found peace with our beautiful Mema. We cannot wait to see you both again." (Thank you Landyn)

Services for John will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. The family has entrusted John to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home. To sign the online register book, please visit www.alamogordofuneralhome.org.

John was a kind and a dear sweet man of whom I have had the pleasure of knowing since the late 80's. He will be greatly missed. I remember going to the lake and getting together in the evenings as John and Dreama would spend time with friends and fishing for carp too rid the lake of those pesky fish. I am sorry for the families loss.
