Rev. Ernest R. "Ernie" Rogers, 91, of Albany, GA, was called home to be with the Lord August 28, 2025 at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton, GA. A memorial service will be held September 15, 2025 at 1:00 pm at The Worship Center at Porterfield Methodist Church. Rev. Chuck Knight will officiate.
Rev. Rogers was born on January 8, 1934 in Indian Orchard, MA to Raymond and Leona Rogers. He grew up there and graduated from Cardinal Catholic High School. Rev. Rogers joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University. He held a job as a postal carrier in Pompano Beach, Fla. before zip codes. When they rolled zip codes out, as a way to get people to start using them, they had a Mr. ZIP naturally Ernie became Mr. ZIP. He was employed with IBM for 10 years, and was so charismatic they asked him to be president of the IBM Credit Union Employee's Club, where he implemented many social programs such as family picnics, Christmas parties, scuba club and of course fishing! He moved to Albany, GA in 1978 and for the last twenty years he served as the Minister at Baconton Methodist Church. Rev. Rogers was a member of Porterfield Methodist Church where he immensely enjoyed being a part of the men's Bible Study, and any social activity at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Segler Rogers of Albany, GA, a brother Frank (Lois) Rogers of East Longmeadow, Mass a sister, Jeanette Stone of Hudson, Mass., and preceded in death by his brother Ronald Rogers (Annette) His children, Anne Rogers of Plymouth, MA, Douglas Rogers (Mary Ann) of Honolulu, HI, Debbie Nall of Coca, FL and Ellen Starr of Marietta, GA, his grandchildren, Kerri Mullen (Mike) of Dighton, MA, Steffani Langston (Elliott) of Baltimore, MD, Kyle Lawton (Tammy) of Lakeland, Fla, Christopher Correll of Orlando, Michael Correll (Melissa) of Debary, FL, Tina Presley (Kellan) of Kihei, HI, Wes Starr of Woodstock, GA, Jessica Stewart (Andy) of Tiger GA ,Joshua Starr (Aria) of Cartersville, GA, and Margaret Starr of Marietta, Ga. His step-children, Danny McDonald (Carolyn) Albany, GA, Francie Causey (Ronnie) of Dawson, GA. Step grandchildren, Mellisa Merritt and Kori Foy (Walter) both of Albany, GA. Carson McDonald of Clermont, Fla, Morgan McDonald of Albany, Ga, Lesley Aikens (Keenan) and Joshua Smith both of Leesburg, Ga., and 21 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Porterfield Methodist Church.
