Robert Askey Obituary

Robert Milton "Buff" Askey died Tuesday January 2, 2024, at his residence. He was born on March 1, 1941 in Clearfield, PA to the late Carl and Pauline Askey. He graduated from Milton Hershey High School in 1959. After a brief enrollment at Wake Forrest University to play football, he left school and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served 20 years in active service (2 tours in Vietnam) and another 24 years in a civil service role at MCLB Albany.

In 1962, he married Nancy Irene Junod and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. They had two children (Carl and Jeff) and made Albany, GA their home after retiring from active duty from the United States Marine Corps.

Buff was a member of the American Legion, Mended Hearts, Marine Corps League and Littleton Sunday School class at First Methodist Church Albany. He volunteered each Monday for 13 years at the Alzheimer's Day Care Center, several years for the Mended Hearts caregiver program at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and numerous mission trips with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). He enjoyed giving his time to youth in the community through the Albany Recreation Department and was an avid golfer and fan of the Buffalo Bills.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Irene Askey; children Carl and Lori Askey, and Jeff and Sherry Askey; grandsons Dr. William Austin Askey and Dr. Robert Andrew Askey; sister Catherine Blasko and brother Howard Askey. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Beth Askey.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, with a visitation with family from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by memorial service at First Methodist Church Albany starting at 3:00 p.m. in the main sanctuary.
