Samuel Saxon Obituary

Samuel Albert Saxon III, ("Sam"), artist and educator, has died at the age of 86 on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Sam was born in Albany, Georgia on April 6, 1936, the son of Samuel Albert Saxon, Jr and Sarah Joe Murray Saxon. He graduated from Gainesville High School (1955), attended the University of Florida, and earned degrees from LaGrange College, (1964, Speech and Theatre) and Brigham Young University (1973 and 1981, Education). He was an Air Force veteran, proud member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, and a lifelong educator.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cecile Marie Sands, sons John, Robert (Ann), and Gus (Shelley), brother E. Gus Saxon (Kate), 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at St. Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center, 1738 W University Ave., Gainesville, FL 32603, with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Oakview Cemetery, Albany, GA. In lieu of flowers, Sam requested donations to St. Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center or the Harn Museum of Art. Sam will be laid to rest with his parents and grandparents in Oakview/Riverside Cemetery, Albany, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 1 pm.
