JOHN HARON Obituary

JOHN HARON ALEXANDRIA, IN: John S. Haron, 94, left this earthly home on Friday, August 22, 2025, following an extended illness. He passed away from his residence in the same room he was born in 1931 while surrounded by his loving family. John was born on March 2, 1931, in Alexandria to Joseph and Ida (Gosnell) Haron and was a lifetime Alexandria resident. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1950. During his high school years, John was active in track, baseball, football and basketball and received 12 varsity letters. He was a member of the Alexandria Varsity A Men's Club. John kept the official scorebook for the Alexandria Tiger Basketball program for 25 years and was awarded a Varsity A Sweater for his dedicated service. He met and married the love of his life Loisann Hon and they were married on June 17, 1951. John served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marines and was honorably discharged in 1953. He played semi-pro baseball for the Johns-Manville team and Ted's Cowboys. He worked for the former Johns-Manville Corporation until 1964. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1987 after 23 years of employment. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball in Alexandria for several years. John was a long-time member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church where he was an usher, deacon and sang in the choir. He was a self-employed farmer, enjoyed working in his yard and was a skilled handyman. John often used his "fix-it" skills to help many elderly folks around town. He was a well-known groundskeeper and mowed numerous yards for several years around Alexandria. He was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Bunker Hill." SURVIVORS: Son-Tony (Jill) Haron-Alexandria 2 Daughters-Connie (James) Davenport-Pendleton, Beth (Paul) Dent-Alexandria 12 Grandchildren-Amy Pruden, Kimberly Pruden (Marty), Breanne Ellis (Kris), Brittany Haron (Landon), Casey Haron (Laura), Wade Ellis, Jamie Davenport, Wesley Ellis (Sarah), Anthony Dent (Colleen), Christopher Dent, April Dent and Jerry Hines 7 Great-Grandchildren-Jessica Snodgrass, Zoey Hines Cultra (Cole), Jacob Snodgrass, Logan Hines, Kali Hines, Hudson Ellis, Carter Ellis, Austyn Dent, Cooper Dent 2 Great-Great Granddaughters-Claire Cultra and Hallee Cultra. Several nieces and nephews. His loving church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 72 years-Loisann Haron in 2023, infant sister-Regina Haron, Sister-Evelyn Rairdon, In-laws-Doris Lee and Harold Thompson, Eloise Hon, Son-in-law-Herb Ellis, Grandson-Banny Snodgrass. Services honoring John's life, legacy and faith were held at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 South Park Avenue with Pastor Michael Deutsch officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria First Baptist Church with envelopes available at the services.
