Michael Maurice Burris

Michael Maurice Burris of Schertz, TX passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at the age of 67, after a five-year battle with cancer.

Michael is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeannette Wilburn Burris; his 3 children, Jennifer Hughes (Brandon Fehrenkamp) of Leander, Tarah Burris of Austin, and Aaron (Lauren) Burris of Katy; his 3 grandchildren Hayden Hughes, Holden Hughes and Lila Burris; his siblings Ronald Burris, Dixie (Keith) Jeffrey, and Debbie LaFont. He leaves behind countless family members, including his aunt, cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quinton "Toby" and Peggy Burris, and by his brother, Phillip Burris.

Michael was a native Texan who graduated from Luling High School in 1970 before attending Southwest Texas University. He began working for Dresser Industries in 1979, remained a loyal employee through Halliburton's acquisition, and was proud to have recently been recognized by Halliburton for 40 years of service. He spent most of his career in the Alice and Corpus Christi offices, before moving to San Antonio in 2006.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, PawPaw and friend. He enjoyed family vacations, golfing, fishing and above all else, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a gentle giant, with an endearing smile, who loved to laugh and tell stories.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 08, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Schertz at 11:00AM.

Michael requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to San Antonio Food Bank or Alice Volunteer Services.
