Ramon Corona Obituary

SAN DIEGO - Ramon C. Corona, 75, was called home on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in a Corpus Christi nursing home after a long illness. He was born in San Diego, Texas on June 13, 1943 to his parents Justo and Gregoria Corona. He was a US Army Veteran who served his country in the Vietnam Era receiving two Purple Hearts. Ramon was active in the community through his church where he was a Mutualista, coaching little league and pony league. He was an avid San Diego Vaquero and Dallas Cowboys fan, and enjoyed gardening, carpentry, barbequing and spending time with his family. He retired from the US Postal Service in San Diego after 35 years of employment. He was a loving and patient husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 1/2 years of marriage, Petra S. Corona; his granddaughter, Sabrina R. Piña; his parents; one brother, Desiderio A. Corona.

Ramon is survived by his children, Guadalupe M. (James R. ) Meador III of Corpus Christi, Texas; Esteban R. (Norma) Corona of Kingsville, Texas; Nelda Luz (Omar) Velasquez of San Diego, Texas; sister, Elma G. (Joe) Salazar of Corpus Christi, Texas; eight grandchildren, James R. Meador, IV, Justin A. Meador, Joseph R. Meador, Stephanie R. Marquez, Stacy R. Corona, Sara R. Corona, Esteban O. Velasquez, Mateo A. Velasquez; three great grandchildren, Julian R. Marquez, Jacob- Matthew Ayala, Jordan Michael Ayala; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 till 9 pm. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Military Graveside Service by Alice Burial Veterans Association and Interment will follow at the San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.
