ROEL "ROY" FLORES Roel "Roy" Flores, 56 years of age, was called home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He was born in Alice Texas on August 9, 1966, to his parents, Juvenal and Amada Vela Flores. Roy was a graduate of San Diego High School Class of 1984 with Kroger's being his first employer at the time. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army for 35 years. During his time, he served a tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom and then retired as a Sergeant First Class. He was formerly employed by Yates Ford, Bowden Ford, and currently employed as a mechanic with Fesco Inc. for almost 17 years. Roy was an avid football and track fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending gun shows with his brother and brother-in-law Roy. He also loved to shop for antique memorabilia, stopping at estate sales and pawn shops during his travels. He loved cars, specifically the 1929 Ford Rat Rod and always dreamed of having one. Roy was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle who always put his family first and enjoyed family gatherings. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juvenal and Amada Vela Flores; father-in-law, Raul Ruiz; brother-in-law, Rolando Ortiz; niece, Leslie Morin. Roy is survived by his wife of 30 years of marriage, Belma Flores of Alice; two sons, Matthew Flores and Devon Flores; his siblings, Esmeralda (Eleazar) Garcia of San Diego, Texas; Berta (Lawrence) de Hoyos of Corpus Christi, Texas; Diana (Vidal) Rodriguez of Annaville, Texas; Irma (John) Upchurch of San Diego, Texas; Ruben (Melissa) Flores of Alice; Sylvia (Joe) Avalos of Pigeon, Mich.; Elaine (Jorel) Jackson of Oahu, Hawaii; mother-in-law, Maria O. Ruiz of Alice; two brothers-in-law, Raul (Nora) Ruiz, David (Gracie) Ruiz; three sisters-in-law, Belia (Adam) Aleman, Sylvia (Felipe) Hasette, Lisa (Nazario) Figueroa; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Military services and interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
