SANTIAGO "JIMMY" TORRES Santiago "Jimmy" Torres, 85 years of age, was called home and joined the love of his life, his wife Zulema on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2023. Jimmy was born in San Diego, Texas on May 1, 1937 to his parents, Sixto and Concepcion Torres. He was retired after working as a backhoe and heavy equipment operator for H.B. Zachry Construction Co. After retirement it would not be long before he found himself operating a backhoe to assist a friend at a local company. This lead him out of retirement, and operating a backhoe for 20 more years. Jimmy was affectionally known as "Popo" to his family and loved ones. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching wrestling, his novellas and having his daily dose of ice cream or milkshakes. He was also a jack-of-all-trades, who could fix everything and anything. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and neighbors. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Zulema P. Torres; two sons; his parents; his siblings, Pablo, Alfredo, Domingo, Aurelio Torres, Emilia Aguillon, Francisca Barrera, and Rosa Guerra. Jimmy is survived by his children, Lionel (Rachel) Torres, Orlando "Landy" Torrez, Roel "Roy" (Monica) Torres, David (Cris) Torrez, Jo Ann (Amando) Cadena, Jr.; raised as children, David (Samantha) Torres Jr., LeRoy Torres; sister, Juanita Sanchez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 12 p.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery #2 in San Diego, Texas. The family would like to thank Dr. Kamat and staff, Gracia Hospice, (Sabrina, Abbie, Sunni, and Tori), Windsor -Calallen, and all the family, friends, and neighbors for the love, and compassion they showed our Popo during his journey home. A special thanks to his granddaughter, Amanda Cadena for assisting her Popo while residing at the Cadena residence in Calallen.
