THELMA GARCIA CANTU Thelma Garcia Cantu, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 91 on July 24, 2024 in Alice, Texas. Born on January 25, 1933, to Enrique "Henry" and Olivia Garcia, Thelma's early years were rooted in a family that instilled in her the importance of hard work and compassion. Thelma's journey took a beautiful turn when she met Gilibaldo Cantu while both were working in Alice. Their love story blossomed into a lifelong partnership, marrying each other after Gilibaldo returned from military service. As a devoted stay-at-home mother, Thelma dedicated herself to her family, ensuring her children had all they needed to grow and thrive. Her selflessness and commitment to motherhood left a lasting mark on her children. Once her children were grown, Thelma transitioned into the workforce taking on the role of banker. Thelma will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The memories she created and the love she shared will remain etched in the hearts of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enrique "Henry" and Olivia Garcia; and one sister, Julie Garcia Saenz. She is survived by two children, Glenda Cantu Johnston of Alice and Richard Cantu (Lisa) of Alice; one sister, Elda Riojas of Laredo; two grandchildren, Miranda Johnston and Rachel Marie Cantu; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a holy rosary to begin at 9 a.m. A funeral mass will follow and be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Services to conclude after the mass. Pallbearers will be Alfredo Riojas, Israel Arnoldo Cantu, Gilbert Canales, Robert Moya, Edgar Van Geem, and Floyd Harris.
