Vilma Salinas Obituary

VILMA GLORIA GARCIA SALINAS Vilma Gloria Garcia Salinas transitioned to her next life on April 20, 2023, after a long battle with congestive heart failure in Alice, Texas. Vilma was born on June 19, 1943, in Alice to Jesus M. Garcia and Elisa (Vela) Garcia. She attended Alice High School and married Arnoldo G. Salinas on August 30, 1961. The couple moved to New Mexico and then Washington after Arnoldo was drafted into the Army but returned to Alice in 1965. They settled in Agua Dulce in 1968 and shortly thereafter adopted a daughter and then a son from Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio, Texas. Vilma was a very devoted daughter, wife, mother and sister who cared for her family very deeply. She was a faithful Catholic and longtime church volunteer at her parish, St. Francis of Rome in Agua Dulce. Her life revolved around her husband and children and also caring for her mother, who lived with her family for many years. She enjoyed creating delicious meals for friends and family, including making dozens of tamales every Christmas so her family could enjoy their time together during the holiday season. Vilma enjoyed being stylish and was an avid animal lover who liked listening to the music of the 1950's and sharing recollections of her sock hop days. Reminiscing about dances at La Villita and good times with her parents and friends were her most treasured memories. She also had a green thumb and kept beautiful gardens with many plants and flowers throughout her life. Vilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, father and mother, and brothers Baldemar and Jesus Garcia and sisters Elva and Alicia. She is survived by her daughter Celena (Brock) Boudreau and son Arnold Eric Salinas (girlfriend Suzette Garcia) and her grandchildren Beau and Ava Boudreau and Karina, Jacob and James Salinas and siblings Rene Garcia, Odelia Cardenas, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Trevino Funeral Home, 120 E. Front Street, Alice, on Thursday, April 27 with a rosary at 8:45 a.m. with mass following at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m.

Dear Celena,
thinking of you all during this time of loss and sadness. I so enjoyed knowing your mom over the years. Vilma loved watching the parades in our street & was always so complimentary, warm & kind to me. Your mom truly adored & loved you all. You were her life. Despite her failing health your mom always kept up her magnificent style. Celena -you took incredible care of her for so many years. I am very proud of you my beautiful friend.
Love Charis & family

Vilma was my very devoted mother. She worked hard to raise my brother & I was also a wonderful grandmother to our children. We will miss her deeply.
