Captain Matthew Kirk Davenport, 59, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on Thursday the 6th of September after a year-long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and children and knew how much he was loved. He was born in Amarillo Texas July 3rd, 1959.
Matthew Kirk Davenport was preceded in death by his Father David E. Davenport.
He is survived by his Mother, Betty; his sister Linda; his wife Deborah; his son Ellison and wife Caitlin; his daughter Carly and husband Jake; and his son Ethan Davenport. He was lovingly known as Skipper to his 2 granddaughters Harper and Stella. He also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Matthew Graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Geological Science in 1983. He later received his MBA from The University of Texas San Antonio. Matthew went through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola Florida and became an Officer in the United States Navy in 1988. He spent 30 years in honorable and dedicated service to the Navy and the Nation. He served as a Naval Intelligence Officer in each war subsequent to his induction into military service. For his service, he received countless awards. The final of which was the Legion of Merit, a military award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
The Viewing will be held on Sunday, September the 16th, from 3:00 to 5:00 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home; 189 N Seguin Ave, New Braunfels Texas. The Service will be held on Monday, September 17th, at 11:00 am at Oakwood Baptist Church; 2154 loop 337 New Braunfels Texas. Immediately following the service, the burial with full Military Honors will be held at Ft. Sam Houston on Monday, September 17th at 2:30 pm.
