Jerry Pennington Obituary

Jerry Lyn Pennington, 81, fell asleep in death Thursday, January 18, 2018.

Jerry was born in San Angelo and raised in Eldorado, Texas. Jerry graduated from Schreiner Junior College in Kerrville in 1957. He was 5th in his class, class president, played football and named outstanding company commander. He then attended the University of Texas for two years and continued his education with the Texas National Guards. He graduated officer candidate school in 1961 being 9th of 81 in his class. After school and military he had various jobs; however, the career he found his niche in was car sales. He was general manager, fleet manager and just a good salesman. He met many friends through sales. Jerry had many attributes; he believed that intelligent people spoke of Goals and Ideas. Jerry had many things he enjoyed which included golf, hunting, fishing, all sports, Andrew Lloyd Webber music, his friendships and most of all his family. Jerry was a treasure to his family. He adored his loving wife and loved his children. He showed them the beauty in life. He enjoyed taking his family to the mountains and showing them new places. He was a lover of God's creations. He and his wife also adored their grandson; they referred to him as their little prince. He brought joy to them daily for the past 6 years of his little life.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jeremiah Pennington, mother, Evelyn Annie Blakeway; son, Donovan Pennington; daughter-in-law, Jessica Pennington; and his brother, Kenneth Paul Pennington.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sally Pennington; daughter, Melina Pennington Abernathy; and his grandson, London Abernathy, both of Amarillo; two other grandchildren; his brother, Mickey Ray Pennington and wife Barbara; and many nieces and nephews; and many friends and lifelong friend, Jim Steward.

Special thanks to hospice and Terry for playing the kingdom music for Jerry. His hope was in the resurrection and being united with his family, (Psalms 37). In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Parkway Kingdom Hall.

There will be a tribute for Jerry's life in the fall in Colorado.

In 1970, I went to work for Jerry at Hedgecoke Motor Co. He taught me how to be a good salesman and propped me up when I would get down. When I got my commission in the Texas National Guard in 1972, he advised me to go to the basic course in residence and I was always glad I did. I will always remember him.
