Jerry Stapleton Obituary

Jerry Ray Stapleton, 62, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Celebration of Life Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Arena of Life Church with Pastor Travis Bennett and Pastor Buzz Busby officiating.

Jerry was born on November 6, 1955 in Lubbock to Quien and Shirley Stapleton. He moved to Amarillo as a child, where he attended schools before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp. He served for over 6 years before his honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Jerry settled in Amarillo where he married Sherry Cole on May 2, 1981. They have been devoted members of Arena of Life Church for over 13 years. He worked as a welder at RSM Builders for over 17 years, and at Bell Helicopter, where he worked for many years.

Jerry loved the cowboy way of life. He enjoyed riding horses, was a past bull rider and enjoyed watching westerns. As a father, he was involved and loving and he was always willing to help a friend in need. In his free time, he enjoyed grilling steaks and watching the Dallas Cowboys play. Above all, Jerry loved his family and he adored being Papa to his grandbabies.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Stapleton of Amarillo; father, Quien Stapleton of Amarillo; 2 sons, Jeremy Stapleton and wife Andrea of Durango, CO and Jerrod Stapleton and wife Kimberly of Amarillo; sister, Cyndy Stapleton; brother, Kelly Stapleton and wife Vicki, all of Amarillo; grandchildren, Porter and Kristian Stapleton and one grandchild on the way as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his sister, Sharla Stapleton.

I lost touch with Jerry over the last few years, but I will never forget he and Sherry. He and I had a working relationship and a friendship. I always try to keep the two separated, but in Jerry's case it was impossible. I used to look forward to seeing him with his humor and upbeat personality every morning. He was devoted to our little company, and always supported me and our corporate en devours. I am saddened by his death, and already miss him.

Jerry and I worked at Bell Helicopter together. He was a true and loyal friend. He and Sherry even attended my dad's funeral, a man he'd never met in his life, because he was concerned about me as a friend. The funeral was an hour and a half away from Amarillo. We had great times together and he passed on a lot of great advice about life and his faith. He will be missed by many who were blessed enough to have spend time around him. God just gained one heck of a fun guy! I pray for peace and comfort for his family.
