Kathy Edes Obituary

Kathy Edes
Amarillo - Friday evening, March 19, 2021, the world lost an exceptional human being with the death of Kathy Edes. Strong matriarch, successful businesswoman, adventurer, loving wife, adored mother grandmother, and great grandmother, Kathy leaves a beautiful legacy of love and devotion that will guide her family through their lifetimes. Kathy died with her beloved husband of exactly 56 years to the day by her side.
Kathy was a single mother at an early age, and she struggled to provide for her son, Allen, while working as a bookkeeper at Sears and Roebuck in Amarillo. Their world changed for the better the day she met Melvin Edes. Melvin and Kathy fell in love and were married in 1965 and Melvin became dad to Allen. It was the best thing that could have happened for each of them, and Kathy and Melvin made a beautiful life together over the years.
In 1984, Kathy and Melvin began the adventure of a lifetime, with the opening of Edes Meats. Their hard work and perseverance made Edes Meats a household name in the Texas Panhandle region, synonymous with fantastic quality and service. One could always count on seeing Melvin out front and Kathy in her office almost any time the doors were open for business.
Perhaps Kathy's most cherished role in life was as Gigi, grandmother to her adoring granddaughters, Jordan, and Alexa. She cherished her granddaughters and showered them with love. In December of 2018, Kathy's legacy expanded with the birth of her great-grandson, Reno Hart Demezza. She was overjoyed by this birth and she dreamt of spending her later years watching him grow.
Kathy was loved and admired by everyone who knew her, and she knew many. She was a striking woman with great style and hair as white as snow. You could always pick her out of a crowd. Kathy took great pride in her faith in God and found immense joy in her community at The Colonies Church of Christ.
Kathy positively touched many lives throughout her lifetime and her legacy will continue on in many ways. Those of us who loved her dearly will rejoice in the love and laughter we shared with her while she was with us.
The service will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at The Colonies Church of Christ with Dick Marcear officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family requests that all in attendance wear masks. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations be made to the Amarillo Little Theatre, and/or the Church of Christ Children's Home.

Although my wife, Sharon (Cline), and I live in Pittsburgh, we lived our early years in Amarillo. Our families were all well-known to each other. It seemed that everyone knew the Edes family! I was saddened to learn of Kathy's recent passing. Sharon and I send our condolences for your loss, and trust you will be comforted by what a great lady she was.
