Kenneth Arron Sims

Kenneth Arron Sims, 84, of Amarillo died Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Memorial Services will be 10:00 am on Saturday at Cox Funeral Home. Kenneth was born August 30, 1933 to Earl and Frankie Sims. He graduated from Amarillo High School. Kenneth went to College at West Texas State University where he earned his Bachelors of Arts degree. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy where he worked on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Kenneth worked at the Amarillo Helium Plant and Xcel Helium Plant. He retired in 1990. He married Gwen Weatherly in Panhandle on March 9, 2004. Kenneth and Gwen loved going to garage sales. He played golf and made two holes in one. He enjoyed traveling and gambling at casinos. He was also a very talented artist and painter. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gyp Sims; and one sister, Earlene Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Sims of Wheeler; two sons Gary Sims and wife Terri of Amarillo, Larry Sims and wife Bonnie of Aurora, CO; one daughter Debbie Westenburg and husband Ronnie of Amarillo; two brothers Donald Sims of Lubbock, Clinton Sims and wife Alice of Amarillo; one sister Betty Fry of Amarillo; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
