Clyde Smith Obituary

For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have ever lasting life. John 3:16 The earthly journey of Clyde Elmo Smith begins on July 16, 1956 when he was born to his parents Joseph and Elnora Smith. He was the seventh child of twelve. As an adolescent, Clyde was baptized at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness Church by the late Bishop Goodloe. In 1974 he graduated from Franklinton High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1974 to 1977. He was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. Clyde learned to weld and earned a top distinction certificate for being a precision shooter while in the army. In 1978 through 1979, he attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA. In the summer of 1983, he married his wife, Devorah. Clyde was gifted with many skills: welding, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical, and some mechanical abilities. While living in New Orleans, he worked for Equitable Shipyard, Latter and Blum Property Management, and Regis Property Management. After Hurricane Katrina, Clyde and his family moved to Mississippi where he worked for Metro Counseling CTR in Jackson, MS, as a house manager and at McComb Mills, and St. Andrews Mission. Clyde leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 42 years Devorah; one son, Langston Smith of Jackson, MS; four daughters, Shannon (Derek) Woods of Cumming, GA, Selena Smith of Houston, TX, Angeline Smith of Ruth, MS, and Carolyn Walker of Hammond, LA; six grandchildren, Sierra of Simi Valley, CA, Brian and Cailee of Cumming, GA, Ansley of Ruth, MS, Elijah of Donaldsonville, LA and Kameron of Houston, TX; one great grandchild, Mylei of Simi Valley, CA; four brothers Joe Nathan (Mary) Smith of Oxon Hill, MD, McKiethen "Leek" (Lise) Smith of Gulfport, MS, Edward "Bo" Smith of Franklinton, LA, Dock Smith of Baton Rouge, LA; five sisters, Linda (Leonard) Wilson of Franklinton, LA, Brenda (Norman) Bell of DeSoto, TX, Gwendolyn (Tommy) Redditt of Baton Rouge, LA, Barbara (Rodney) Sanders of Miami, FL and Patricia (Wilton "Jay") Semien of Baton Rouge, LA; one uncle, Willie Harvey of Cleveland, OH; one aunt, Louise Smith of Baton Rouge, LA; his mother-in-law, Daisy Bridges of Ruth, MS, brother-in-law, W.D. (Sue) Bridges of Mary Esther, FL, sister-in-law, Marva Van Buren of Jackson, MS; God Son, Devin Augustine of New Orleans, LA and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elnora Smith; two brothers, Larry Smith, and Mark Smith; a sister-in-law, Frances Smith; a niece, Natasha Hart and Nephew, Malik Smith. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, from 10:00AM – 12:00PM followed by the funeral service at 12:00PM at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness USA 25333 Harvey Road Franklinton, Louisiana 70438 with Elder Alvin Partman – Officiating.
