Daniel Wilson Obituary

Daniel Wilson was born August 4, 1936 in Franklinton, LA to the late Robert I. Wilson, Sr. and Olivia (Rhodes) Wilson and ascended home to glory on October 1, 2025. Brother Dan joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. He was baptized and committed his life to Christ at an early age. Upon marrying the love of his life, he transferred his membership and served faithfully at Union Chapel AME Church. He was a Sunday School Teacher as well as a Trustee for many years until his health began to decline. Brother Dan graduated as Salutatorian from Washington High School and enlisted in the United States Navy for 8 years. Upon completing his enlistment, he worked several jobs but majority of his employment was with Avondale Shipyard and Trinity Industries Madisonville Shipyard. He had an excellent green thumb as his garden was filled with delicious sweet potatoes, peas, greens, okra, corn and the best sugarcane and watermelons around. He was also mean on the grill; his barbeque chicken was finger-licking-good! Brother Dan united into holy matrimony to Leona Fannie Thomas on November 15, 1959, and to that union four children were born. Brother Wilson was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Everyone who knew him had high regards for him and admired his devotion to his family. A gentle giant and a man of few words but those spoken were truthful and powerful. Brother Dan leaves to cherish his loving memories his four children: Kenneth E. (Maria) Wilson, Sr., of San Diego, CA; Shari K. (Jerry) Burnette of New Orleans, LA; Alease M. Wilson and Jermaine A. (Tonia) Wilson, both of Houston, TX. Four grandchildren: Kenneth E. Wilson, Jr., Ashley N. (Randall) Edwards, Chauntel A. Wilson and Jakob J.C. Wilson; three step-grandchildren: Paco Fowler, Michael Burnette, and Fred W. Rueger; three great-grandchildren: Naomi G. Edwards, Randall E. Edwards Jr. and Lincoln J. Wilson; and one step great-granddaughter, Eris Edwards; two very special caretakers, Erica Moore and Georgia M. Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Leona Wilson; parents, Robert & Olivia Wilson; brothers, Theodore Wilson, Sr. and Robert I. Wilson, Jr.; sisters, Elizabeth Brown, Louise Dunn, Macedonia Wilson, Vendora Gray and Nell Dawson; and one granddaughter, Jardan A. Wilson. A drive through viewing will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Union Chapel AME Church with Rev. Gary Porter, Pastor, Rev. Sherman Berry, Eulogist. Interment – Wilson Cemetery.
