Danny L. Goodwin

Danny, age 77, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025. He was a resident of Independence, LA and a member of Old Zion Hill Baptist Church. Danny dedicated 30 years to Ormet before he retired and took great pride in providing for his family. A passionate athlete and dedicated coach, Danny spent countless years playing and coaching men's slow pitch softball, eventually earning a place in the Men's Softball Hall of Fame, which was a testament to both his talent and love for the game. He also coached basketball, always leading with encouragement, heart, and integrity. A loyal LSU Tigers fan, Danny held season passes, and never missed a football game, proudly cheering on his team rain or shine. He adored his family above all else, cherishing every moment spent with his beloved sons and granddaughters, who were the pride and joy of his life. Danny never let any challenges get in his way and faced everything with humble strength and dignity. He has touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy that can never be replaced. Danny was an incredible man and will be forever missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Machelle Goodwin; sons, Haiden Goodwin (Darci), Ian Goodwin (Renee); brother, Donny Goodwin (Susie); granddaughters, Adalynn and Alice Claire Goodwin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille D. and Wilmer R. Goodwin. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Old Zion Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Gary Dennis and Pastor Errol Faust will officiate with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
