Farrell Anthony “Tony” Buras Sr., a resident of Hammond, LA, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at his niece's home in Amite, LA, at the age of 79. He was born on July 15, 1946, in Venice, LA, the son of Dimetry A. Buras and Marie Reese Buras.
Tony was a disabled veteran. He served in the United States Army, the United States Marines, and the Army National Guard, 8th Infantry Airborne Division. He fought in the Vietnam War, where he was shot five times during combat. Tony retired from the military after serving for 23 years, 4 months, and 24 days. He was a Roman Catholic. Tony worked for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Department and the Village of Tickfaw Police Department. He also worked for the Hammond Police Department. Tony attended Holy Ghost Parochial School and Hammond High School.
He is survived by his companion, Linda V. Thomas; four daughters, Karen Buras Newell (Keith), Carrell Buras Jones (Greg), Jeannie Buras Harper, and Alice Buras; son, Jason M. Buras; grandchildren, Curtis, Brentlee, Avery, Mallex, Kari, James Keith, Lake, Nicole, Kaylin, Emerley, Brayson, Benjamin, Lucas, Erick, Morgan, and Mathew; great-grandchildren, Eyston, Curtis Jr., Owen, Ethan, Brayson, Charlie, Kinsley, Tiger, Helena, Aiden, and William; niece, Michelle Buras Brister (Eric), and his great- great niece, Kaylee Betts. Linda’s children also survive him: Nancy Thomas (John Boyle) and her 3 children and Kerry O. Thomas (Jessica) and his 3 children.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, son, Farrell A. Buras Jr.; sisters, Lois Buras, Rosemary Buras Squarsich, and Virgie Buras Christason; and his brothers, Leroy J. Buras, and James E. Buras, as well as 2 brothers who passed away at birth.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 2:00 pm.
