Henry Beck Obituary
I, Henry Frederick Beck, died from my earthly body on October 14, 2025, and am now in the arms of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 6, 1942, as the only child of Olga Niemeyer Beck and Edwin F. Beck. I was the husband of the love of my life, Daisy Lowe Beck and father of my wonderful children Erik Francis Beck, Amy Beck Miller, and Alexander Frederick Beck. What a great journey I have had from the beginning to the end. My mother taught me to love and respect people and to understand feelings of others. My father taught me work ethics and how to do stuff around the house. They both loved me very much. My wife Daisy, my loving partner through most of this journey, was at my side for over 55 years until she passed away last July. She gave me her love and support, never wavering.
Certain events in my life guided me forever. Being lucky enough to be born in New Orleans was a treasure. The food, music, family, celebrations, and roots were part of me from the beginning. Travelling around the city at an early age on public transportation, attending public schools, attending the NOAC, selling soft drinks and popcorn at a young age at numerous high school football games at City Park Stadium gave me a strong independent base for life. Being the first college graduate (LSU) in my family was a goal I attained. One major life changing experience was going to the U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School and getting my Commission in the U.S. Navy. Going to sea on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri La gave me responsibility and accountability that I used throughout my life. It also gave me the meeting place for my beloved Daisy at the ship's homeport in Mayport, Florida. Other than my parents, wife, and children, there were a few people that influenced my life: my high school basketball coach Alex "Greek" Athas, John Kuchler and Charles Ennis at D.H. Holmes, Tony Zulli, Paul McIlhenny and three Presbyterian pastors; Austin Olive, Chris Curtis, and Jason Wood. My twenty years of being in the merchandising area of D.H. Holmes gave me the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world. And that continued with my own business the rest of my life.
All three of my children are different and gifted. Erik has people talents and is the core of a loving family. Amy has tenderness, grace, and understanding that only daughters can give. Alex has talents in the artistic world that have blossomed into wonders. And yes, my four grandchildren, Shepherd Henry Beck, Zachary Quinn Miller, Amanda Daisy Miller, and Vivian Dixie Beck are the future I cannot imagine. Do not fret about me folks. I know that with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior the best is yet to come.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend my funeral services on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Faith Presbyterian Church, 16330 Highway 1085, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana.
