James Rogers Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of James Morris Rogers, affectionately known as "Pops," who departed this life on June 8, 2025, at the age of 83, in the comfort of his home. Born on July 16, 1941, in Covington, Louisiana, Morris was a beacon of love, kindness, and strength, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Morris was the beloved son of Wilmer and Rachel Fitzmorris Rogers and the proud brother of the late Willa Faye Rogers Duhe (Hank), brother-in-law to the late Ernestine Stockstill. He is remembered fondly by his nephews, Rodney Sharp (Carolyn) and the late Danny Sharp.
He was a devoted husband to Betty Rogers, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story was one of adventure and companionship, culminating in a memorable trip to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire family-a cherished memory in a life filled with travel across all 50 states and numerous national parks. Together, they explored the beauty of the world, hand in hand.
Morris was a proud father to his children, including his late son, James Michael (Donna) Rogers, and his surviving son, Christopher Morris Rogers (Melanie). He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Casey (Brant) Granger (Millie), Meagan (Aaron) Faulk (Beau, Finley, and Eloise), Hannah (Michael) Schuler, Luke (Macey) Rogers, Cade (Annamarie) Rogers, and Steele Rogers, and also survived by his sister-in-law, Celestine Scott and brothers-in-law, Julius Scott and Spencer Stockstill. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in their accomplishments.
A graduate of Covington High School in 1959, Morris proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic, servicing B52s and F-104 fighter jets. After his military service, he dedicated his career to the Hammond State School, retiring as the A/C and Heating Supervisor.
Morris was an active member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, where he found community and fellowship. He had a passion for gardening, nurturing both plants and relationships with the same care and dedication. He was a man who never met a stranger, always ready to strike up a conversation and share a laugh.
His strength, kindness, and unwavering love for his family defined his life. Morris was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, who embodied the values of love, compassion, and resilience.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Trina Nixon, who served as a devoted caregiver, as well as the Veteran Home Bound team, Ochsner's Home Health, and Eagan Hospice for their exceptional support during his final days.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, in Covington, LA and the visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until service time, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Morris Rogers. As we remember him, let us honor his legacy by carrying forward his spirit of love and kindness in our own lives.
Rest in peace, dear Pops. Your legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those you loved.
