John Williams Obituary
John "Johnny" Herman Williams Jr., born on February 23, 1968 in New Orleans, LA, and residing in Waveland, MS, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 57. He was affectionately known to his friends as "Flip Flop."
Johnny attended Holy Cross High School with the Class of '86 and played Junior Varsity Basketball. He then attended UNO but soon found a passion for music and joined the band Gunslinger as a drummer in the late 1980's. One of his fondest memories from his music career was being interviewed on the Angela Hill Show and performing at Prince's private club in Minnesota.
Johnny worked as a dedicated crew chief at John Slidell Park, where his commitment to excellence and community engagement were paramount. His dedication to the park and camaraderie with his crews and coworkers will be a lasting legacy. He was formerly employed with Meyers Tires in sales, Gulf Coast Wheels & Accessories as a driver, and Dino's Rock Box in Fat City as a bartender.
As an adult, Johnny enjoyed playing in softball leagues at City Park and in Slidell. His passion for softball eventually blossomed into a new role of becoming a director for many benefit tournaments. His efforts supported causes close to his heart, such as breast cancer, childhood cancer, Toys for Tots, First Responders, and many individuals who needed assistance. He was a member of the New Orleans Softball League (NOSL) and was a beloved figure on and off the field, known for his sportsmanship, generosity, and really good hamburgers.
Johnny was an avid fisherman who spent nearly every weekend at his fishing camp near Houma, LA. He was instrumental in organizing numerous fishing rodeos and sharing his love for the sport. His two favorite places to be were John Slidell Park and his cherished fishing camp, which he enjoyed with his "adopted" brother, Barry. Johnny loved frying or boiling what he caught. He loved to bake and he cooked most every night for his mama and sister - who will greatly miss him in the kitchen.
Johnny is the beloved son of Cynthia Ann Mirambell (Nancy); adored father of Tory LeMoine (Chris); and treasured brother of Charmaine Ann Williams. Johnny was also a proud adoptive father to Dominique and her two daughters and a proud grandfather to one precious grandson. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends, all of whom he loved greatly. Johnny "Flip Flop" was a devoted father figure to many and took great pride in teaching those he mentored useful life lessons and the importance of caring for others.
Those who knew John will remember him as a loving man whose presence was a gift to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
