Rachel Dean "Blanchard" Pflug

Rachel Dean (Blanchard) Pflug, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus, from her home on August 23, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on January 11, 1940, in Bayou Blue, LA, where she lived until she attended Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans. She raised her children and worked in Chalmette, LA, then lived in Pensacola, Florida; Fort Worth, Texas; and for the last two decades in Slidell, LA. Rachel is survived by her beloved partner of 48 years, Richard Allen Cappel of Kinder, LA, who will greatly miss her loving presence, and her four children, Yvette Marie Auderer and spouse, Frank Auderer, of St. Bernard Parish; Lisa Ann Pflug and spouse, Charles Thompson, of Pass Christian, MS; Mark Calvin Pflug of Slidell, LA; and Linda Kay Pflug and spouse, Paul Elmore, of New Market, MD. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Amanda Auderer Pastor (daughter of Yvette) and spouse, Victor Pastor; Ethan Pflug; and Amelia Elmore (children of Linda); her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Cameron, and Emma Pastor; and her sister, Sandy Chauvin of Houma, LA. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Morris J. and Della Authement Blanchard of Bayou Blue, LA; three brothers, Lance, Larry, and Lynn; as well as her former spouse and father of her children, Harry Frederic Pflug of Chalmette, LA. Rachel loved her family and friends, and she found joy in making or searching for thoughtful gifts to please them. She enjoyed cooking and eating the seafood and creole dishes known from her childhood. Rachel liked to visit gardens and grow flowers, and she adored the beauty of the countryside, bayous, and mature live oak trees draped with Spanish moss. She appreciated all the beauty that God created for us. Rachel will be deeply missed by her family and dear friends, who will honor her in a private service.
