William Gaines Obituary

Wiliam Edward "Ed" Gaines, Jr. November 18, 1944 – October 8, 2025 Wiliam Edward "Ed" Gaines, Jr. passed away October 8, 2025, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his favorite grandparents; Claude "PawBrum" Brumfield and Claudie "MawGee" Magee, with whom he spent the best days of his childhood. Also preceding him in death was his parents, William Edward, Sr., and Jaqueline "Jackie" Brumfield Gaines, and his brothers, Steve and Gary Gaines. Ed was a lifelong resident of Varnado, LA with fond memories of Wildcat Football under the leadership of Coach "Scrap" Fornea. He worked 40 years at the Bogalusa Paper Mill as a millwright mechanic and spent his retirement recanting countless stories of his co-workers and their workplace shenanigans. Ed's passions including Nascar and the dirt track racing at Pike County Speedway. He was also a diehard Alabama/ Nick Saban fan, much to the distress to his daughter. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sharon Lee Davis Gaines, to whom he was fiercely devoted to; daughter and son in law, Ann Marie and Jim Thorpe; grandsons, Blake, Reece, and Jesse. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family, and a host of friends. An end-of-Life celebration for Ed will be planned at a later date.
