Charles Edward "Lightning" McLeod, age 91, of Canton, GA passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Heritage Hospice. He graduated from Berry Schools in 1954 and was drafted by the U.S. Army to work as a Lab and Medical Technician. As an Army Veteran, he served during the Korean War from 1954 until he was discharged in 1956. After he was discharged from the Army, he worked as a lab technician at Fort McClellan until his retirement after 20 years of service. Upon his retirement, he went to work at the Baptist Cherokee Hospital in Centre, Alabama. "Lightning" had many hobbies and interests. He was a member of the VFW, Mustang Antique Car Club of America Member, Berry Schools and College Alumni Association, Sorghum Syrup Growers and Producers Association, Restored Antique Mustang Enthusiast, Antique Farmall Tractor Enthusiast, Avid Reader of World War II Era Historical Books and Berry Work Week and Restoration Group. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the South Canton Funeral Home. Graveside Services are scheduled for 12:30 PM, on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Midway Community Church Cemetery located in Bowdon, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Midway Community Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Midway Community Church in Bowdon, Georgia from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024. The gentleman serving as pallbearers are as follows: Luther Jones, Zeb Cochran, Jake Cochran, Jeff Worley, and Justin Smith. He was preceded in death by, Parents: Walter Frank and Lois Jones McLeod, Sisters: Iva Nell McLeod Smith and Atha McLeod Brown Brothers: Clarence Huford McLeod, Thomas Malcolm "Tommack" McLeod and Walter Donald McLeod.
