Hines, a cherished resident of Anniston, Alabama gracefully transitioned to be with the Lord on November 6, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of her home. Born on September 4, 1956 in Anniston, she was the youngest of seven children born to the late James Tolliver, Sr. and the late Queenie Tolliver. Cheryl's journey was marked by remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to her community. A proud graduate of Anniston High School, Class of 1974, Cheryl shone as a cheerleader and an esteemed member of the National Honor Society. Her pursuit of higher education led her to Tuskegee University, where she pledged allegiance to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Gamma Kappa Chapter in the Fall of 1975. Continuing her academic journey, Cheryl earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University on December 14, 1979. For 32 years Cheryl served as a devoted nurse at Regional Medical Center (RMC) in Anniston, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless newborns. Her compassion and care in the nursery touched the hearts of families throughout the community. On July 21, 1989, Cheryl entered into a union of love with Elton Hines. Together, they raised three children-Tomekii, Brandon, and Kimberly. Cheryl embraced her role as a grandmother with joy, sharing her love with grandchildren, Devin, Brooklynn, Baylee, Justin, Braden, James (honorary), Karsen, and Braylee. Cheryl's spiritual journey unfolded at All Saints Catholic Church, where she dedicated her adult life to various roles, including Operation Manager of the Altar, Parish Council Member, Ladies Rosary Altar Society, and Event Planner of Kitchen Operations. In retirement, Cheryl extended her nurturing spirit to the Cuddler program, providing comfort to infants at risk for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) at the RMC OB unit. At the graduate level, Cheryl joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Iota Mu Omega Chapter in Anniston. A Silver Star with over 25 years of service to the sorority, Cheryl epitomized graciousness as a hostess and served diligently on the social, hospitality, and welfare committees. Cheryl and I graduated together from AHS, class of 1974. We later car pooled together for classes during college at Jacksonville State. It was then that I met Cheryl's sister Rose Tolliver Munford? a bookworm attending nursing school. Cheryl, Rose, and I later provided skilled care at RMC.
It was at RMC that I questioned what makes a good nurse? The
answer depends on who
provides the definition. I say
that a good nurse is smart,
organized, helpful, a team
player and compassionate.
Cheryl possessed all of these
qualities. We remained friends
on Facebook.
Cheryl is one of the best people that I know. I will never forget you.
The Lord walks beside us through the darkness and lead us back to Peace. May perpetual Light shine upon her.
