Cornelius Cross Jr Obituary

Youngstown - Cornelius Cross Jr., 85, departed this life Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Elyria Memorial Hospital, following complications. He was born January 8, 1927, in Munford, Ala., the son of Cornelius and Gertrude Wilson Cross Sr., and resided in this area for 60 years, coming from Warren. Mr. Cross was employed with the Republic Steel Corp. for 32 years as a laborer, before retiring June 1986. He enjoyed walking, fishing, news, billiards, tennis and baseball. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1950, as a private first class. Mr. Cross was widowed twice. He married Lovie Jean Edington in 1969, and she died in 1993. He married Thelma Jane Parm in 1956, and she died in 1966. He leaves to mourn two sons, Ronald Neil (Ladedria) Cross, of Elyria and Cornelius Keith (Gloria) Cross, of Ontario; two daughters, Mrs. Emma Jean (Joseph) Towns, of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Kathy J. (Robert) Peters, of Mentor; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. His parents; one brother, Joseph Cross; and one sister, Kate Cross Carlisle, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at noon at the New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church.
