Funeral service for Reverend Craig Spurlin, 66, 0f Oxford, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Brookside Baptist Church in Oxford. Reverend Chris Spurlin and Dr. Garry Ragsdale will officiate and burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. He will lie in state for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Brother Craig stepped into heaven Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lindy and Alma Spurlin; and sister, Teresa "Reese" Adams. Brother Craig was a devoted Christian, loving husband, daddy, Paw Paw, brother, uncle and friend. He was born and raised in Oxford, Alabama and graduated from Oxford High School in 1973. He had a career as a brick mason, later working for Oxford School System as a custodian and a bus driver. Brother Craig was known for his love of the outdoors being an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a huge sense of humor and a smile that would light up the room. He loved Alabama Football. Brother Craig was called into the ministry to preach the Gospel and spent many years teaching, preaching and sharing God's word. He planted many seeds, leading many to Christ. During his time of ministering, he served seven years in the Calhoun County Jail Ministry, and was Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Eastaboga for two and a half years. Brother Craig was an active member and deacon of Brookside Baptist Church of Oxford. Survivors include his loving wife of forty-four years, Peggy Mintz Spurlin; daughters, Denisha Spurlin Storey (Jason) and Amy Spurlin Key, both of Munford; grandchildren, Dylan Roszell, Jacob Key, Elizabeth "Liz"Storey, Alexander Storey, Isaac "Sug" Storey, and Isaiah "Curly Top" Storey; sisters, Clara NeSmith, and Linda Peak; brothers, Troy Spurlin (Karen), Tony Spurlin (Donna) and Barry Spurlin; eleven nieces and nephews; and thirty two great-nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Coco Saben Spurlin. Pallbearers will be Andy Carden, Randy Shanks, Adam Bonds, Cody Spurlin, Dylan Roszell, Alexander Storey, Darryl Ginn and Chad Carden. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow bus drivers and friends, Terry Padgett, Robin Mayfield and Shay Hanie.
