David Williams Obituary

David Henry Williams, age 56, of Southside, AL, died peacefully at home on Monday, May 10 from complications brought on by cancer. David grew up in Anniston where his parents still live in his childhood home. He graduated from Wellborn High School in 1983 and from Birmingham-Southern College in 1987 with a degree in chemistry. He was a proud member of Theta Chi. After a brief stint working in a research lab at UAB he began a long career with Alabama Power/Southern Company (30+ years). He worked as a chemist first at E.C. Gaston Power Plant and then for many years at Plant Miller. While at Miller he made himself irreplaceable by joining the High Angle Rescue and Hazmat Teams and by training as a medic. In the early 2000s David earned a master's degree in computer science and subsequently worked in Information Technology, then as a systems analyst for Southern Company. A devout Christian, David found great comfort in his faith and is well known for sharing his biblical knowledge and spiritual insight. He most recently worshipped at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Rainbow City. David was an avid cook. He could replicate a dish just by using his senses of taste and smell. He was especially known for his homemade bread, chocolate chip cookies, and baclava that could rival a Lebanese ima. To his family David was an adoring and adored son, husband, and father. He was a provider, protector, encyclopedia, counselor, and best friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Fannie Bell Williams of Anniston and Woodrow and Rose Ella Hubbard of Eastaboga. He is survived by his wife, Ola Cross Williams of Southside, daughter, Hannah Jocelyn Williams of Trussville, his parents, Henry and Carolyn Williams of Anniston, and by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, goddaughters, and a host of new and long-time friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Rainbow City with visitation following. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, at Eulaton United Methodist Church in Anniston and is open to all friends and family. Flowers may be sent for either service or, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Episcopal Relief and Development.

David was a good neighbor to my brother and Mother on Pomataw Trail, he will be truly missed.
May the Lord bless you and your family during this time of grief.

I met David years ago when Ola was teaching at All Saints and we "hit it off" instantly. I enjoyed listening to David talk about his work and his family. I haven't seen David, Ola and Hannah in sometime but do think about them often.

MAY THE LORD GIVE YOU EVERLASTING LIFE, REST AND PEACE
