Edna Jo Gowens Obituary

Pleasant Gap - Funeral services for Edna Jo Gowens, 81, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Barbara Mosley and the Rev. Tommy Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Gowens died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Cherokee Medical Center. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Walter Joe Gowens, of Pleasant Gap; four children, Marshea Welsh (Dale), of Rock Run, Sandra Walton (Tim), of Alabaster, Donnie Gowens, of Pleasant Gap and Tammy Jones (Brian), of Spring Garden; 14 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; one sister, Helen Ray, of Piedmont; and several special nieces and nephews. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gowens was a Piedmont native and had been a Cherokee County resident most all of her life. She retired from the Spring Garden School cafeteria, was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church, loved to read and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Math and Maggie Gowens; three sisters and five brothers. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to Union Grove United Methodist Church.
