Eugene "Gene" Whitten

Graveside service for Mr. Eugene "Gene" Whitten, 83, of Ohatchee will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm at United Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Brother Tommy Reaves and Brother Sam Fordham will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the church. Mr. Whitten passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at his home in Ohatchee. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bobbie Kilgore Whitten; son, Scott Whitten; parents, Clarence and Bertie Whitten; brothers, Bill Whitten, Kenneth Whitten, Doug Whitten; sister, Gwen Whitten Barber. He leaves behind his children, Barry Whitten (Sonja) and Kristy Whitten Stone (Steven); grandchildren, Aaron Whitten, Luke Whitten, Daniel Whitten, Breana Whitten Black, Emily Whitten, Mackenzie Stone, Adam Stone, and Jacob Stone; great grandchildren, Palmer Whitten, Scotlyn Whitten and Wells Whitten; sister, Becky Casalini. Mr. Whitten was a wonderful husband, father, brother, "Papa" and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Oak Bowery Baptist Church for many years. He went to Lincoln High School. He was considered a "jack of all trades" and people came from all around to have him fix things. In his younger days, he was also a talented barber for the community. Pallbearers will be Aaron Whitten, Luke Whitten, Daniel Whitten, Adam Stone, Jacob Stone, Jacob Black, Mick Casalini, and Matthew Kilgore. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Hospital in memory of Mr. Whitten. He was very passionate about helping the children at St. Jude. The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers, Glenda Griffin, Teresa Walker, Bonita Brown, and Lori Garmon, who took such great care of him near the end.
