James Curtis Horsley of Oxford, Alabama, passed away on December 4, 2024, with his surviving son, Allen Reed Horsley, Esq. of Las Vegas, Nevada, by his side. He is also survived by the Cline family, including Darrell and Tammie Cline, along with Austin and Andrew Cline of Oxford, who loved and cared for him during the best and toughest of times. He is also survived by Phillip Say, MD whom he considered to be like another son to him. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Lynn Wheeles Horsley and his father Curtis Edward Horsley, along with Mittice Lou Wheeles, whom he considered to be his mother. Mr. James, as he was known by so many, enjoyed spending time at Mrs. Horsley's popular daycare center after becoming disabled, and as a result, watched generations of children grow up to become successful adults who continue to enrich our community and often tell stories of the kindness and gratitude he always showed them. Having fought Parkinson's Disease for decades and having survived two brain aneurysms, Mr. Horsley was certainly no stranger to tough times but never complained. Despite the difficult days, he continued to love life, including Alabama football, basketball, the outdoors, cats, dogs, and just about anyone he ever met. His son recounts a time years ago, while spending time in the mountains with Mr. Horsley at Christmas time that his father had befriended a stray, lonely cat. When it came time to leave, Mr. Horsley refused to leave the cat because of his fear that it would be left cold and hungry. He instructed his son that he wasn't leaving if the cat did not go with them and that the cat had feelings just like the rest of us do. His son drove away from the mountains that day, grateful at having witnessed another act of kindness from his father - the same man who never let him go a day without baseball cards as a boy, who took him out for breakfast every Wednesday morning before school and who loved everyone he met unconditionally, regardless of who they are. Mr. Horsley was 76. The funeral service will be at 12 pm on Friday, December 6, 2024, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Austin Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Austin Cline, Andrew Cline, Eric Jarvis, Nic Wright, Noah Wright and Landon Winfrey. Online condolences may be made to the family at
