James Willie Askew Jr Obituary

Anniston - Mr. James Willie Askew Jr., 77, of Anniston, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor La'Noah E. Ealy officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Hills Cemetery with Model City Mortuary directing. Mr. Askew is survived by his daughter, Veronica Ann Askew, of Anniston; three sons, James Askew III (Constance), and Reco Askew, both of Anniston, and Norris Askew, Gulfport, Miss.; five sisters, Juell Jackson and Carol Armstrong, both of Anniston, Yvonne Hudgins, of Tampa, Fla., Rosetta Askew, of N.C., and Mary Jefferson, of Birmingham; one brother, Warren (Shirlene) Askew, of Anniston; godson, James Hill and goddaughter, Betty Thornton Prothro, both of Anniston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a special friend, Mary. Mr. Askew was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mae; and his daughters, Linda "Gale" Askew, and Sandra "San" Maria Askew. Mr. Askew was a faithful member of Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. Mr. Askew worked and retired from U.S. Castings after 38 years. He was an avid sportsman and was affiliated with several local organization. Public visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
