John Cockrell Obituary

WEAVER — Funeral service for Mr. John Gross Cockrell, 82, will be at First Baptist Church of Weaver, at 2 p.m Thursday, October 2, 2008 with the Rev. Randy Hagan officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Mr. Cockrell passed away Monday, September 29, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Cockrell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Connell Cockrell, of Weaver; daughter, Wanda Fehl and husband, Dale, of Marietta, Ga.; sons, Jerry Cockrell and wife, Linda, of Grovetown, Ga., Dennis Cockrell, of Andalusia and Jeff Cockrell and wife, Cary, of Oxford; sister, Lullene Lott and husband, Robert Eugene; grandchildren, Matt Cockrell and wife, Heidi, Kristopher Brown and wife, Jessica, Nicholas Brown, Taylor Fehl, Cooper Smith, Alysia Davis and husband, Michael; one expected grandson, Noah Cockrell; great- grandchildren, Kate Cockrell and Emma Cockrell, Coleman Brown; several nieces and nephews; and special sister-in-law, Vasser Sellers.

Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. Mr. Cockrell was a native of Corinth Community in Randolph County and current resident of Weaver. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. He retired from the Anniston Police Department and Parker Hannifin. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weaver. He was preceded in death by parents, Oliver Reese and Mary Ann Cockrell; brothers, Emmon, Howard and wife, Dona, and Carl Cockrell; sisters, Vera Blake and husband, Lumas, Margaret Dunkerley and husband Bill, Eris Jones and husband, Lawrence and Hedda Cockrell. Chapel Hill Funeral Home will be servicing the Cockrell family (256) 820-5151
