Jon Richardson Obituary
Mr. Jon Shannon (Shane) Richardson, 38, of Rome, went home to be with Jesus early Saturday morning, April 3, 2010. Mr. Richardson was born in Calhoun, Ga. on November 21, 1971, son of Don and Carole Carr Richardson. He was a 1990 graduate of Calhoun High School. Upon graduation, he attended Jacksonville State University with a baseball scholarship. Later he transferred to Southern Union where he continued his baseball career. Shane graduated from Berry College in 1996, playing baseball and earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Mr. Richardson received his Certified Public Accountant certification in 1999 and his Certified Valuation Analyst certification in 2001. Professionally, Shane began his career with Dobb and Company in Calhoun. He was also employed with Read, Martin & Slickman here in Rome then became a Vice-President and Partner with Whittington & Jones here in Rome. In 2007, he associated with his Partner, Ron Abbott, forming Abbott & Richardson, C.P. A.'s, here in Rome. Mr. Richardson served as Board President of the Harbor House and served in various capacities on the Board. He was a member of the Executive Advisory Board of Berry College's Campbell School of Business. He was a past Board member of the Salvation Army and a past Board member of the Heart of the Community. He was a staff lecturer for the Georgia Society of C.P.A.'s, serving as a Council member, and was a Past President of the local chapter of the Georgia Society of C. P.A.'s. Shane was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church. He recognized a calling into ministry and was a Youth teacher at Lakeview. Upon his illness, he began a college ministry at Lakeview and with his wife, recently founded the Y.A.C.S., the Young Adult Cancer Support group. Shane's vision was to cross denominational lines and had begun partnering with other local ministers to bring about a city-wide revival. Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jake William Richardson and by his maternal grandparents, Iris Maude Carr and William Norwood Carr. Survivors include his wife, the former DeAnn Shannon, to whom he was married on May 18, 1996; a daughter, Molly DeAnn Richardson, Rome; 2 sons, William (Jake) Richardson and Samuel Shannon Richardson, both of Rome; his parents, Don and Carole Richardson, Jacksonville, Ala.; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Louise Richardson, Goodwater, Ala.; a brother, Corey Richardson, Calhoun; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Linda and Rodney Shannon, Rome; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Tracey Murphy and her husband, Terry, Rome, and Mrs. Robin Warden and her husband, Jamie, Thompson's Station, Tenn.; nieces and nephews including Katie King, Tyler and Talyn Murphy, Shannon and Asher Warden also survive. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the West Rome Baptist Church with his Pastor, the Rev. Jason Willis, the Rev. Scott Jackson, the Rev. Jarrod Roberts and Mr. Glenn Getchell officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to assemble at the West Rome Baptist Church on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and are as follows: Active: Corey Richardson, Terry Murphy, Jamie Warden, Tyler Murphy, Todd Hold, and Jarrett Shadday. Honorary: Ron Abbott and the staff of Abbott & Richardson, C.P.A.'s. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harbor House, P. O. Box 5143, Rome, GA 30162-5143 or to Unity Christian School, 2960 New Calhoun Highway, Rome, GA 30161. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
