Joseph Neville Shepherd Obituary

Mr. Joseph Neville Shepherd, 78, of Anniston, passed away on March 15, 2015 after a lengthy illness at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Tuscaloosa. Mr. Shepherd was a native of Tuscaloosa and was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School. He graduated with his Bachelor degree in Forestry from Auburn University and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, where he was referred to as "Jack Armstrong, The All American Boy". Following graduation, he worked for a number of years with Gulf States Paper in Tuscaloosa. He returned to Auburn and received his degree in Pharmacy. He worked for a number of years for Harco Drugs then went on to become a civilian pharmacist at Noble Army Hospital at Ft. McClellan. In July 1999, he retired as Chief of Pharmacy at Ft. McClellan. During his time at Ft. McClellan, he was awarded the Civilian Medal of Honor for his service to the government. Following retirement, he and his wife enjoyed camping, travelling and playing golf. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Anniston. Mr. Shepherd will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather but most of all as a quiet, Southern gentleman. Mr. Shepherd is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry Shepherd and Dorothy Dugins Shepherd. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol Copeland Shepherd, of Anniston; his children, Patrick Samuel Shepherd, of McCalla, Joseph N. Shepherd Jr., of Birmingham and Suzanne West Shepherd, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Grace Cameron Shepherd and Jennifer Shepherd Golden; a step granddaughter, Caroline Holcomb; a sister, Louise Waldrop, of Northport; brother, Alston Shepherd, of Northport; sister-in-law, Kay Speir, of Daphne; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Anniston, P.O. Box 1789, Anniston, AL 36202 or to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Mrs. Shepherd,

I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a sweet, kind soul and was always kind to us at the library. I know you will miss him as will your family. Praying for peace for you at this time.

We at the Oxford Public Library will miss seeing his (and Carol's) faces when they would come in a get books. Very Nice Couple.
