Funeral service for Joseph "Poppa Joe" Wright were held Monday at Saks Baptist Church with Bro. Daniel Harper and Bro. Tommy Munroe officiating. Mr. Wright passed away Friday at UAB in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barbara Carter Wright; sons, Anthony Wright (LuAnne) and Jason Wright (Angie); grandchildren, Brayden Wright, Marlie Wright, Brylee Wright, Landon Johnson, Katie Johnson; great-grandson, Kingsley New; sister, Machelle Clark; brother, Mark Wright. He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Walker and his father, Martin Wright. Mr. Wright was a member of Saks Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, retired from Foote Bro Carpet One and was an avid motorcyclist. He loved his family and friends and adored his two sons and grandchildren. My heart goes out to the family and all of Joe's friends. He was so loved, such a loss. Always a smile on his face. When someone says Live, Laugh,& Love...I'll always think of Joe. I met him when Rhonda Whitman (my cousin) was so sick. Now they both are in heaven with no pain, flying high. You'll be missed Popa Joe

I'll always remember Poppa Joe playing Wii with my grandchildren. He was having as much fun as they were. He will be missed by everyone. Now he is free from pain and teaching Jesus to ride a bike!
