Kirkland Weatherly Leonard, age 78 of Sewanee, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Kirkland was born on July 17, 1946, in Mobile, Alabama. She was raised in Anniston, Alabama and considered it her hometown. Kirkland was fondly known by friends and family as "Bbobby". Kirkland was very talented and had many interests and hobbies. She was a talented dancer and enjoyed clogging and traveling with her dance group. She loved spending time watching her granddaughter's swim practices and swim meets. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Alice Rushton. Kirkland is survived by her husband, Russell Lee Leonard; daughters, Kirkland Weatherly Rushton and Leslie Almeda Leonard; grandchildren, Kirkland Hamilton (Ashlee) Hill, William Albert (Amanda) Jones, Mary Weatherly Jones, and Sarah Russell Leonard; great-grandchildren, Peyton Douglas Hill, Alice Weatherly Smith, and Parker Lee Hill. A memorial service for Kirkland will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 1:00 pm at All Saints Chapel. Interment will follow at Eastern Star Cemetery. A reception immediately following services will be held at Convocation Hall in Sewanee.
