Melvin Watts Obituary

Melvin Watts, age 84 of Munford, Alabama passed away on June 12, 2023. He died peacefully with his family by his side. Melvin was a lifelong resident of Munford and was well known and active in the community. He was a retired soybean farmer, farming land across Talladega County for many years. During that time, he served on the Board of Directors for Talladega County Exchange for 18 years. In an effort to preserve farmland in the area, he also served on the Choccolocco Creek Watershed Conservancy District for 20 years and served on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service committee for 10 years. Melvin enjoyed farming and his biggest passion was working on his farm with his herd of Brangus cattle for the past 40 years. He was a member of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association and the Alabama Brangus Breeders Association. Melvin's proudest accomplishment, however, was his family. He is survived by his daughters Marsha Watts Foreman (Brian) and Susan Watts Kirkland (Donnie); his grandchildren Joshua Blake Thompson (Ashley), Amber Yvonne Gatlin (Hunter), Sandra Nicole Foreman, Anthony Luis Foreman, David Miguel Foreman, and Laney Isabella Thompson; great grandchildren Chloe Grace Nelson, Knox Gatlin Thompson and Easton Lane Thompson; siblings Sara Frances Morris, Lois Ruth Blackerby and Rebecca Watts Ashley and special friends Ava and Bethany Hays and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24th 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Jenifer Baptist Church in Munford, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Choccolocco Creek Watershed Association.
