Michael J. Banister

A celebration of life for Michael J. Banister, 73, of Anniston, will be held, Monday, October 27, 2025, at 1:00pm at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Oxford. Professional services entrusted to S.M. Goodson Funeral Home-Anniston. Michael Joseph Banister was born to Dimela "Sadie" and Thomas Banister in Rochester, NY. He attended West High School. After graduating in 1969, he served his country during a brief military career in the United States Air Force. Following, Michael worked as an Engineer at Xerox for over 25 years. Michael moved to Alabama around 2014 and became a member of Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church where he proudly served as a Deacon. He was happiest when swimming, enjoying seafood and traveling long distances by car. Michael was very skillful with his hands and enjoyed fixing anything for anyone. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Banister II. He is survived by his two daughters, Tamara Strachan (Jason) and Tamika Stefanowicz (Eric); two granddaughters, Zoe Strachan and Blaise Stefanowicz; sister, Linda Griffin (Steve, Sr.); and a host of other family members and friends. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Michael's devoted friend, Sandra Hinton, who tended to him with compassion, care and patience. May he rest peacefully and find calm seas ahead. S.M.
